LIBERTY HIGHSCHOOL TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION
Manufacturing Technology,
Engineering Explorations and Construction Technology
Dear Parent(s) / Guardian(s):
We are delighted to have your child in our Technology Education Department this year. We have planned a great year that will challenge each and every student. Our expectations are high, and SAFETY IS KEY. We will do everything in our power to see that your child learns to work in a safe manner. All machines and powers tools are in tip top shape and all guards will be in place. Students will be shown the correct way to use each and every tool in the shop that is covered in the classes. Each student will be given a “safety” quiz on each of the large power tools. This quiz MUST be passed in order to use the tool or machine. There will be NO retakes. Students will NOT be allowed to use any tool that they have not been instructed to use. This is to protect your child, as well as the rest of the class from needless endangerment. If for some reason there comes a time to warn a student about his or her safety in the shop, a conference with the principal will be mandated. If a future occurrence develops then a request to have that student REMOVED from the class will be implemented.
We hope you will encourage your child to give their full attention to all tasks at hand. Their success will depend on a three-fold approach: Parent, Teacher, and Student. Parents are the most important link in the success of their child. We encourage you to ask questions about what we are doing in class, please get involved! By all means call us at school or make arrangements to come by and see us.
The structure of our classes involve: Mathematics, Science, History, and English. Since a very important part of these classes incorporate the proper use of hand tools and power equipment, we encourage you to make your child understand the importance of these safety tests. Below are some simple basic rules that we expect from each and every student in our class:
Please sign the following agreement: (This form must be signed before your student uses shop the area.)
I agree to abide by all the rules and regulations presented by the instructor in the operation of tools and equipment in the shop and the classroom.
